ARMS Creates the Progress Towards Degree checks by division and by sport based on the Bylaw 14 Continuing Eligibility legislation.

ARMS sets the PTD gate posts based on the student-athlete's first term of enrollment anywhere, and applies the requisite checks based on full time enrollment being set to "Yes" for the Fall and Spring terms (semester school) or the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms (quarter school), which ARMS defines as the "Primary Terms."

The PTD checks will look at the degree applicable hours earned per term when evaluating whether a Student-Athlete passed or failed a specific check (which ARMS refers to as gate posts). The gate posts will be highlighted in green once they are passed or red if they were not achieved.

Division 2 Gate Posts

9 Hour Rule - The 9 hour rule is checked by looking back at the previous primary term's earned hours. This rule is checked every primary term.

18/27 Hour Rule - The 18 (semester)/ 27 (quarter) hour rule is checked by looking back at the 2 (semester) or 3 (quarter) previous primary term's earned hours. This will be checked every Fall (unless the SA takes a semester off which shifts their full time enrollment schedule).

24/36 Hour Rule - The 24 (semester) /36 (quarter) hour rule is checked by looking back at all the 2 (semester) or 3 (quarter) previous primary term's earned hours as well as the hours earned during the summer term(s) for all schools and the winter term for semester schools. This will be checked every Fall (unless the SA takes a semester off, which shifts their full time enrollment schedule).

Division 1 Gate Posts

6 Hour Rule - The 6 hour rule is checked by looking back at the previous primary term's earned hours. This rule is checked every primary term, except for the football exception below.

9 Hour Rule (Football Only) - The 9 hour rule will be applied to the primary term immediately following the Fall term at your institution to confirm that football student-athlete's earn 9 degree applicable hours during their season.

18/27 Hour Rule - The 18 (semester) /27 (quarter) hour rule is checked by looking back at the 2 previous primary term's earned hours. This will be checked every Fall (unless the SA takes a semester off, which shifts their full time enrollment schedule).

24/36 Hour Rule - The 24 (semester) /36 (quarter) hour rule is checked by looking back at all the 2 (semester) or 3 (quarter) previous primary term's earned hours as well as the hours earned during the summer term(s) for all schools and the winter term for semester schools. This will be checked on the student-athlete's 3rd term of full time enrollment.

Percentage Towards Degree Rules - ARMS will check that the student-athlete has declared their degree prior to their 5th (semester) or 7th (quarter) primary term of enrollment, and will check that they reach 40% of their degree prior to their 5th semester (7th quarter), 60% prior to their 7th semester (10th quarter), and 80% prior to their 9th semester (13th quarter) of full time enrollment.
